James Elkins is one of the most productive scholars in the field of contemporary art. He has published numerous books and lectured around the world. Among the books that have come out after him are: What Painting Is (2000), Art History versus Aesthetics (2005), Visual Literacy (2007), Why Are Our Pictures komodos Puzzles?: komodos On the Modern Origins of pictorial complexity (2009) , Artists with PhDs: On the New doctoral Degree in Studio Art (2009).
