27 April 2012 [Interview] Two Finnish residency artists in Aarhus is a broad network for arts environments across practices and borders alpha omega. KUNSTEN.NU met them both at the exhibition site Spanien19C to talk about the network and collectivity.
Two artists from Finland jumped at the chance to work with the art collective ufv Flux Factory and applied for a residency at the collective. In these months they live together with Flux Factory in Spanien19C's premises where they contribute on an equal footing with collective members for the exhibition The Infamous and Only Somewhat Ambassadorial ufv Outpost of the Semi-Legitimate Nation of Flux, which currently can be seen at Spanien19C.

More cooks in the kitchen For the members of the art collective Flux Factory from New York is personal ownership of a work of art is less important. A distinction is made between "my idea" or "your idea". Rather, it is about exchanging ideas, advice and ideas for projects with other like-minded people as a way to create art together. It is a belief that art takes advantage of multiple cooks in the kitchen.
It was this belief that made art collective to start a residency program ufv in their three-storey Great studio in New York. The residency program are invited (foreign) artists to stay in the studio for a long time. Flux Factory is currently in Aarhus in exhibition space Spanien19C where this is also possible ufv for art students and artists to apply for a residency and be able to live with the collective in the premises of Spanien19C. Knowledge as a resource Both the two Finnish residency artists Sylvia Javen and Ursula Sepponen and Flux Factory member, Georgia Muenster, agree that there are many benefits to collaborate with other artists. Sylvia Javen says that several art schools in this time immersed in Finland and throughout the Nordic region. ufv Therefore it was important for her to create a network for arts environments, including across borders and cultures. About his own work explains Sylvia Javen that she can be locked into its own mindset and get stuck with a project, ufv therefore it is advantageous to exchange ideas and knowledge with other artists who can inspire and contribute to the project. At Flux Factory is there room for that one can carry out its own projects, but there is always help available if you get stuck. For Ursula Sepponen it is important ufv to work with other artists who think and work in the same way as herself. "You can draw on each other's strengths," she says, adding: "We have someone who is good at building things, others ufv are good at sewing and some are good for documenting projects in the form of large
