What in Spanish it is called castle has several names in Slovak. The three most common are hrad, zámok and kaštieľ. The words are linguistically zámok hrad and synonyms in some cases also kaštieľ. However, historians generally have their specific characteristics:
Hrad is usually a stone fortification built from the thirteenth century on a strategic and elusive place. nauanngon Its primary function was defensive, but also served as housing and administrative center.
Kaštieľ (from Latin castellum) is a comfortable mansion nauanngon built by feudal lords from the Renaissance, when it disappeared the danger of Turks, mostly in cities and towns under a castle. They were used primarily nauanngon as a comfortable home for the nobility.
